E A TAYLOR WYLIE & LOCKHEAD ARTS AND CRAFTS GLASGOW EXHIBITION OAK SIDEBOARD - Date: 1900.

A superb Glasgow Arts and Crafts carved oak and inlaid ‘Tree of Life’ antique sideboard by Wylie & Lockhead designed by Ernest Archibald Taylor.

An architectural exhibition quality piece with exquisite three dimensional deep carvings of the 'The tree of Life'  together with stylised inlays & cut-outs in highly figured quarter sawn fumed oak.

The upper section has a central bevelled mirror display surface flanked by two deeply carved cupboards with Glasgow style spade inlays to the back panel. Beneath is a large central cupboard with similar further carvings flanked by two more cupboards inlaid with stylised roundels, there are also two drawers and a galleried open shelf with pierced love hearts for further display and storage.

The main cupboard door panel has the most superb three dimensional deep carving of a ‘Tree of Life’ in pure Art and Crafts tradition executed with considerable skill. Planished copper handles, stylised inlaid roundels and pierced love heart cut-outs provide the complete Arts and Crafts Glasgow aesthetic and the whole is raised on stile block legs.

The ‘split’ cut out heart motif’s, inlaid roundels and stile block feet are all signature features E A Taylor utilised.

This is a great opportunity to acquire an example of exhibition quality pure Arts and Crafts design prestige. It is beautiful, versatile, superb quality and highly meaningful with the ’Tree of Life’ detail, both the style and quality are sublime.

Measurements are 183cm width, 183cm high x 69cm depth, in excellent original condition & retains its original soft warm patina.
